There are events you attend… and then there are experiences that stay with you, that shift your energy and remind you why you love music in the first place. The Resistance Festival at Constitution Hill was exactly that kind of experience. I can honestly say — I haven’t enjoyed myself like that in a long time. Yhoooo, what a day!
Set against the historic backdrop of Constitution Hill, the festival felt like more than just a music event. It was a cultural moment — a fusion of history, creativity, and the ever-evolving sound of hip-hop in South Africa. From the jump, the energy was electric, and it just kept building as the day went on.
What stood out the most for me is that I genuinely enjoyed most of the performances — and that doesn’t happen often. Every artist brought something unique, something intentional.
Nomfundo Moh set a beautiful tone with her performance. Her bars, her presence — it was all so captivating. Then came K.Keed, and I have to be honest — I hadn’t really listened to her before. But wow… the crowd absolutely loved her. The response she got was undeniable, and that alone told me everything I needed to know. She’s definitely on my list now — I need to go dive into her music.
Touchline stepped on stage and did what he does best — he ate it up. Although there were a few sound issues at the beginning, it didn’t take long for him to find his rhythm. And once he did, it was over. His performance of “The Naked Truth” made my heart genuinely happy. There’s something about his storytelling and delivery that just hits differently. I loved his set, his songs — everything.
Then came YoungstaCPT, and let me tell you — he gave us a full show. Not just a performance, a show. He took us back to the roots of true hip-hop, reminding everyone what lyricism and stage presence look like when done right. One of the standout moments was when he rapped over Mgarimbe’s beat — but with a hip-hop twist. That fusion? Wow. That was special. A moment.
Stogie T also delivered a powerful set, but what really sent me was when he brought out Maggz — OMG! I absolutely love Maggz. That moment was beautiful. The nostalgia, the energy, the bars — everything just came together perfectly.
And of course, the heavy hitters did not come to play. Blxckie, Cassper Nyovest, and Maglera Doe Boy absolutely ate it up. Each of them brought their A-game, commanding the stage and keeping the crowd fully engaged. You could feel the hunger, the passion, and the love for the craft.
What made the Resistance Festival even more special was the crowd. The people showed up — not just physically, but emotionally. They knew the lyrics, they felt the music, they were part of the performances. That kind of connection is rare, and it’s what turns a good festival into a great one.
All in all, this was more than just a lineup of performances — it was a celebration of hip-hop culture in its purest form. From rising stars to established legends, everyone contributed to an unforgettable experience.
If this is what the Resistance Festival represents, then it’s definitely something to look forward to every year.
Because wow… what a time. A SOLID 9/10.
