I had the pleasure of attending the G20 Music and Lifestyle Expo on the 14th and 15th of November, and what an unforgettable experience it turned out to be! As a blend of music, culture, and lifestyle, the event offered something for everyone—though I must say, it felt a little quieter on the first day. Despite that, I walked away with some memorable moments and insightful interviews that I’m eager to share with you.
Day 1: An Intimate Introduction
The expo kicked off on the 14th, and while it wasn’t as packed as I had expected, the atmosphere was still welcoming. There was something special about the space; it had an intimate feel, allowing you to connect more personally with the performances and displays. The highlight for me was an incredible interview with the founder of Ubuhle Bembali Couture. The story behind this brand was nothing short of inspiring—a tale of passion, perseverance, and a deep love for cultural heritage. It was a reminder of the importance of staying true to your roots while carving out a space in the world.
When it came to performances, I was completely captivated by Lwah, Thandiswa, and The Muffinz. Each artist brought their own unique flavor to the stage, blending soulful melodies with rich African rhythms. The energy was infectious, even though the crowd was smaller than expected. Despite the relaxed vibe of the day, I felt connected to the music and the moments.
Looking back at Day 1, I’d rate it a solid 6.5/10. It was a good introduction to what the expo was about—great conversations, good music, and an intimate vibe—but there was room for the event to grow into something even bigger and more vibrant.
Day 2: The Legends Arrive
Day 2, held on the 15th of November, was a whole different vibe. The energy picked up considerably, with more people flocking to the expo to experience the magic of the day. The spotlight was on the legends—Ringo Madlingozi, Jonathan Butler, and other incredible artists. Seeing these icons live was like watching history unfold before your eyes. The music was soulful, the performances were dynamic, and the crowd’s energy was at an all-time high. There was a deeper sense of cultural pride and celebration in the air as we reveled in the talent and legacy of these extraordinary musicians.
With the increase in attendees, the second day definitely felt more alive. I enjoyed the performances, but what really stood out to me was the sense of connection in the crowd. People were genuinely enjoying the music, the vendors, the food, and the lifestyle offerings that were available. It was a true celebration of African culture, lifestyle, and music, all wrapped up in one experience.
For Day 2, I’d rate it a 7/10. It was busier, more energetic, and had that palpable cultural vibe that I think many people come to the expo for. I can definitely see why this event draws so many people—especially those looking for a more intimate yet still vibrant atmosphere to enjoy music and culture.
Final Thoughts: A Hidden Gem for Culture Seekers
If you’ve never been to the G20 Music and Lifestyle Expo, I highly recommend it—especially if you're someone who appreciates a more intimate yet culturally rich experience. It's the perfect blend of great music, engaging conversations, and a chance to immerse yourself in South Africa's rich artistic and cultural traditions. Whether you’re a fan of live music, local fashion, or just want to be part of something that celebrates African heritage, this expo is definitely the place to be.
Until next time, I’m looking forward to seeing how this event grows and what future editions have in store!
