Opening the New People’s Park
On Saturday, the 25th of October, Constitutional Hill hosted the highly anticipated Jozi Food and Music Festival, marking the grand opening of the brand-new People’s Park. This first-time event was a smashing success that brought together the best of local food, music, and culture in one spectacular day. The festival was split into two exciting sessions: the first from 10 AM to 2 PM, and the second running from 2 PM into the evening.
Though the event had its few hiccups (such as some less-than-friendly staff interactions), the overall experience was vibrant, energetic, and packed with talent, making it clear that this festival will definitely be back for more in the future.
A Morning and Afternoon of Vibes
The event kicked off with a lively crowd, and the weather was perfect for enjoying a day outdoors. The lineup of performers was nothing short of amazing, with artists across various genres bringing their A-game.
One of the highlights was Manana, whose performance of Little Things had the crowd hooked from the first note. His stage presence and powerful vocals truly set the tone for what was to come.
DJs Who Set the Crowd on Fire
If you weren’t up and dancing during uKayotic and Spontaneous’s set, I’m not sure what you were doing. These DJs were on fire, and their energy had the entire crowd out of their seats, moving to the beats. It felt like the music was pulsing through the ground, sparking a collective wave of excitement throughout the crowd.
Heartfelt Moments with Vusi Nova and Morda Bongz
Then came Vusi Nova, who sang all my favorites! His renditions of Thandiwe and Nomakanjani—the song with Nathi Mnkayi—had me lost in the music, singing along with the crowd. There’s just something about his voice that tugs at your heartstrings.
Next up, we had Morda Bongz, whose performance was absolutely fire. I mean, what's a Morda Bongz set without that iconic spin? The crowd couldn’t get enough of it, and I was right there, cheering along.
Njelic’s Epic Performance
Njelic followed up this is the order of my favs with an epic performance and let me tell you—this guy has hits! Every song felt like a personal anthem, and I found myself singing along to every single track. His energy was contagious, and the crowd was living for it.
KO Closes the Show
To wrap up my fave performances, KO took the stage, closing out a with a bang. His set was a celebration of South African hip-hop, and he performed all the greatest hits that had the crowd vibing hard. If you missed this, you missed an unforgettable end to an incredible day.
By the way, KO has a one-man show coming up at Constitutional Hill on the 29th of November—if you missed him this time, you definitely don’t want to miss that!
A Day to Remember
All in all, despite a few minor setbacks (shoutout to the rude staff who really didn’t know how to handle some situations), the Jozi Food and Music Festival was a success. It was a day filled with incredible performances, good vibes, and some seriously great food. I can’t wait to see what next year’s festival holds—if this debut is anything to go by, it’s only going to get bigger and better. From Vibe check if you want to go we give the event a 7/10.
Looking forward to the next one!
